I just finished listening to it a couple days ago. After you do get used to it, it becomes a fast paced and exciting read. I was not expecting to like this book as much as I did. Cover of the first edition.

Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. I have always like Strahd’s character since his introduction in the original Ravenloft adventure which me and my party of adventures failed at our attempt to vanquish this foe- I still have my grudge and have read other novels featuring the vampire.
Other books in the memors. This is a very memoire, compelling story of how Strahd became what he is. I didn’t give a shit, I found him domineering, confident and oh so sexy.

Refresh and try again. The Memoirs of a Vampirearmy commander Strahd Von Zarovich takes up residence in Ravenloft and then, consumed by envy and regret for lost youth, succumbs to the temptations of the black arts. No, but it wasn’t fantastic either. I thought she loved Sergei…at least, I think she did….
Overall, the first half was excellent, with a powerful feel of realism maybe more so because I was reading it on a quiet, thundery daybut when it got to the part with Tatyana, it started to lose believability for me. I’ve listened to this audio book more times than I can count. The writing is poor and there are large chunks of the book which are just dull. And when Sergei finally brings home his intended bride Tatyana, Stradh is thrown into such mfmoirs that he will do anything to gain her affections.
This leads him to invoke terrible magic, whith unintended and unexpected results. I really did like how the story was told.
I personally never got into the Forgotten Realms, but I always kept a look out for the Ravenloft novels. The floating, mist-like people behind him is an interesting touch, but I’m not really sure what they represent other than the mists. Suffice it to say I forgot about it and never touched it until the past few days, as I was gobbling up text to prepare myself as a DM in the same campaign. For those of you that have read Vampire of the Mists, what happens here is really no surprise.
The Dragonlance series was my personal favorite, and the one that I still occasionally go back to as some of the stories hold up surprisingly well. The plot covers Strahd’s background, his choice to become a vampire, and his path from that choice to his weird existence surrounded by zombies in a trashed castle.

Strahd is just a wonderful character. Vampjre could have been that the story was being told in a very unique first person perspective. Seems like handy background material for anyone getting set to run the game, though.
It’s incredible to watch his descent from determined and honourable soldier to self-serving and self-absorbed vampire. Despite dying hundreds of times and having apparently “very different” personalities each time, Tatyana never remembers Strahd was the one who murdered her beau and never takes revenge against him, which is lame. Patricia Nead Elrod is an American fantasy writer specializing in novels about vampires.
That’s exactly what the tome is: Thanks for telling us about the problem. During my teenage years I practically thrived on them.
